Bio
Amaresh Debbarma is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Saint Paul's College, A.D. Nagar. He received his M.A. in Sociology from Tripura University and his Bachelor of Socio-Legal Sciences (BSL) from Savitribai Phule Pune University. He holds an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. from the Department of Society and Development, Central University of Gujarat, Vadodara.
He was awarded the National Fellowship for Higher Education for ST students in India and has cleared UGC-NET and SET/SLET in Sociology. He formerly worked as Visiting Faculty at Techno India University, Maheskhola, and as Guest Faculty in the Department of Sociology, Tripura University.
His doctoral thesis is “Ethnicity, Identity and Indigenous Politics: The Case of the ‘Tipraland’ Movement,” supervised by Dr. Khaikholen Haokip at the Central University of Gujarat. His research interests include ethnicity, identity politics, social movements and protest, migration, and tribal studies. He has published articles in UGC-listed and peer-reviewed journals.
